Tips for making your Linkedin profile more attractive to potential employers

Tips for making your Linkedin profile more attractive to potential employers

It is no longer a secret that your online presence is just as important as your actual resumé. This means your LinkedIn profile will be judged by a prospective employer just as much as the CV you put forward.

It is therefore vital to keep your LinkedIn profile up to date to fully reflect what you have achieved in your career. With this in mind, here are some useful tips to help spruce up your account to make it as attractive as possible for potential employers.

AN ACTIVE ACCOUNT

Keeping your LinkedIn profile active is key to showing employers that you care what is going on in the world of your career. Publish articles relating to your work interests shows that you are up to date in your industry. Activity such as liking, sharing and commenting on others’ posts will keep your profile relevant and stop it from looking stale.

A WELL-ROUNDED PROFILE

If reviewing the job market or actively interviewing, it is important to not have a half-finished LinkedIn profile online. Setting up your profile and just filling out the main headlines is not sufficient. Once you decide to have a profile, it must be a well-rounded and complete profile.

Every single aspect on your profile must be gone over with a fine-tooth comb and filled out to the best of your ability.

Filling out all the sections on your LinkedIn profile shows that you are serious about your professional presence and that you are committed to taking the time to present yourself well.

Be sure to have a professional photo included also!

THIS ISN’T THE TIME TO BE MODEST

No one will judge you for putting your best foot forward on LinkedIn. Do not be afraid to blow your own trumpet here. Passed your accounting exams first time? Tell us! Fluent in French? Let us know! Finished a project you are proud of? Show it off!

LinkedIn has options to present not only work experience, but skills, accomplishments, hobbies and more.

A STRONG SUMMARY

Utilise your introductory summary just below your headline. Recruiters and employers look at this like a mini pitch. Your work experience section is where you can go into detail about previous roles and responsibilities, but your summary should be a tangible summary, sometimes short and to the point but factual.

Your introduction is your chance to reel the recruiter or employer in, so make it a good bait!!

MAKE CONNECTIONS

Instagram has followers, Facebook is for friends, and LinkedIn is all about making connections. Mutual connections are a great way of building a professional network and boosting your LinkedIn presence.

Invest some time and build connections on your profile. Connect with current or past colleagues, people you have met through work functions, and linking with those from school, college, or courses.

HOBBIES

Within reason, it can be a good idea to publish hobbies that reflect your personal branding. You must be smart with what you include. Are you a runner? Include this to boost your self-motivated image. Are you a keen golfer? This could be an attractive quality to companies who like to take clients to the golf course.

Best of luck!
